Bainbridge Bunting (1913-1981)
Bainbridge Bunting began his tenure as the sole faculty member of the University of New Mexico Art Department in 1948. Accepting the challenge to build a program centered on art and architecture of the United States, he arrived to a campus with insufficient library holdings and a meager slide collection. Upon his arrival, Bunting quickly embraced the art of the Southwest, expanding his scholarly interests from the architecture of the Back Bay District in Boston to encompass local art and customs. His significant studies of adobe architecture revealed the meticulous nature with which he worked and his passion for investigation. From aerial photographs to construction drawings, Bunting's expansive contributions constitute the essence of the current visual resources collection. Dr. Bunting retired from active teaching in 1978; in 1981 the slide library was named in his honor and in acknowledgment of his contributions to the University of New Mexico and to the Albuquerque community.
Cindy Abel Morris - Manager
Employed since 1992 at the Bunting Library, when it was still called the Bainbridge Bunting Memorial Slide Library, Cindy has extensive and firsthand knowledge of the current digital transition as it pertains to slides, digital image files and other visual resources. She worked in museum education prior to earning an MA in Art History and MBA in the Management of Technology, both from UNM. While management issues occupy much of Cindy's workday, projects with graduate interns and student employees are among her greatest pleasures.
Heather Kline - Outreach & Collections
After completing her MA in Art History at UNM (focusing primarily on the Native American art of the Southwest), Heather joined the staff of the Bunting Library in 2012. She also holds an MLIS from the University of Alabama and a BA in Art History and English from the University of Nebraska. Her prior work experience includes galleries and museums as well as libraries. As the Collections and Outreach Services Specialist, Heather is interested in collaboration and increasing access to collections, particularly in the digital realm.
Student Employees/Graduate Interns
