| First & Second Line Classification
2nd line Cutter line The first line number of California arts classification defines time period. The second line number defines culture name. (For subheadings, use Cutter number of heading unless indicated otherwise.) Following the authority established by the SmI, Handbook of North American Indians, (vol. 8), the culture names "Diegueno" and "Mission" will no longer be used. Rather, works will be classified according to a specific culture name specified in the following list; or if an object cannot be associated with a specific culture name, it will be located with other "General" objects.
